Quetta: At least 10 people lost their lives and five others sustained serious injuries after a passenger vehicle collided with a gas bowser near Dalbandin in Balochistan’s Chagai district late Friday night, officials confirmed.

According to DSP Chagai Abid Sherzai, the accident occurred on the Dalbandin road when the two vehicles crashed head-on. Earlier reports suggested the larger vehicle was a trailer truck travelling from Quetta to Taftan.

Officials said the passenger vehicle, reportedly carrying around 15 people, was overloaded at the time of the accident. The collision was so intense that several passengers died on the spot, while others suffered critical injuries.

Rescue teams and local administration personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to Prince Fahad Hospital in Dalbandin for medical treatment. Hospital authorities said some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Police have taken the driver of the larger vehicle into custody and launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The latest tragedy comes months after another deadly crash on the same highway in January 2026 near Yakmach in Chagai district. In that incident, seven people were killed and three others injured when two double-cabin vehicles collided on the remote stretch of the RCD Highway.

Police said the victims in the earlier accident included four women and two children.

The RCD Highway, which links Pakistan with Iran, has long been considered a dangerous route due to speeding, reckless driving, and poor road conditions, factors often blamed for frequent fatal accidents in the region.
