Viral Film Clip Prompts Sohail Sameer to Break Silence

Karachi: Pakistani actor Sohail Sameer has acknowledged a past professional decision and apologised to viewers after a scene from his short film Doosri Aurat went viral on social media, prompting criticism and renewed discussion about content in the country’s entertainment industry.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Sameer said he was sorry to anyone who felt hurt, uncomfortable or disappointed after watching the widely circulated clip.

Rather than defending the scene, the actor accepted responsibility for his involvement and said he now believes he should not have taken part in such material, regardless of the circumstances at the time.

Sameer explained that the sequence was filmed as part of the production and that he had not expected his work to later become the subject of intense public debate.

The actor said the widespread circulation of the clip led him to reassess the decision from a personal perspective. Reflecting on his own family, he said he considered how he would feel if similar content involving his mother, sister or daughter were to emerge publicly.

Describing the experience as a lesson, Sameer said mistakes can have lasting consequences, particularly in an industry where an actor’s public image is closely connected to the work they choose.

He also acknowledged that reputation takes years to establish but can be damaged within moments, adding that he was ashamed of the decision and accepted that he had made a mistake.

At the same time, Sameer asked audiences to view the incident in the context of his wider career rather than judging him solely on one controversial scene. He said people are capable of making mistakes, recognising them and changing as they learn from their experiences.

The controversy began after footage from Doosri Aurat circulated widely online. The clip, which showed Sameer alongside his co-star in intimate close-up sequences, generated mixed reactions among social media users.

Some viewers argued that the sequence should be considered within the context of the film’s storyline, while others questioned whether such scenes were appropriate for Pakistani entertainment.

The incident has also revived discussion about the choices actors make when working on projects that contain sensitive or controversial material. The rapid spread of short clips on social media has further complicated the issue, as individual scenes can reach millions of viewers without the broader context of the original production.
