Ayesha Raza Urges Parents to Support Polio Vaccination Drive

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq has urged parents to ensure that all children under the age of five receive polio vaccination during the ongoing Sub-National Polio Campaign.

The campaign, being conducted from September 21 to 27 in 115 selected districts, aims to vaccinate more than 31 million children, Ayesha Raza Farooq said.

She noted that the decline in positive environmental samples for poliovirus was encouraging, but stressed that the risk of transmission had not been completely eliminated.

“As long as poliovirus exists anywhere, we must ensure that every child has access to the polio vaccine,” she said.

Ayesha Raza Farooq said polio workers were continuing door-to-door vaccination efforts despite challenging circumstances to protect children from the crippling disease.

She urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and make sure their children up to five years of age receive polio drops.

The focal person also appealed to religious scholars, media organisations, community leaders and parents to extend full support to the campaign.

“Protecting every child from polio is a national responsibility,” she said, stressing the importance of collective efforts to eliminate the virus from Pakistan.
