Washington: US President Donald Trump has approved a landmark civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, paving the way for deeper energy ties between the two countries and potentially reshaping the kingdom’s future nuclear ambitions.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the 30-year agreement will allow Saudi Arabia to receive US assistance in developing a civilian nuclear energy programme, including access to nuclear technology for peaceful energy purposes.
The multi-billion-dollar deal is expected to provide American companies with a leading role in building and expanding Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure, while limiting the involvement of other international firms.
