PMD Issues Rain Alert for Parts of Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan is set for another spell of monsoon weather, with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall expected across several regions from August 13 to 15, prompting authorities to remain alert to possible urban flooding and landslides.
The Meteorological Department said monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of the country, while westerly weather systems are also influencing the region. The combination is likely to trigger rain and thunderstorms in northern and central areas.
Kashmir is expected to receive intermittent rain and thunderstorms from the night of August 12 through August 15, with heavy rainfall possible in some locations. Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur are among the areas included in the forecast.
A similar weather pattern is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, where Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar may experience rain during the period.
Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Haripur, are also likely to receive thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall.
In Punjab, rain is forecast in northeastern and central districts, including Murree, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other parts of Potohar are expected to see thunderstorms from the evening or night of August 13 through August 15, with heavy rain possible at isolated locations.
Rain is also expected in several central and southern districts of Punjab, including Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, while parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel, may also receive showers.
Meanwhile, parts of Sindh are likely to remain hot and humid, although thunderstorms may occur in Tharparkar, Umerkot and Sanghar on August 12 and 13.
The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.
There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous areas of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiat and Kashmir.
Tourists and travelers have been advised to exercise caution, particularly in vulnerable mountainous areas. Farmers have also been urged to plan agricultural activities and protect livestock in accordance with the weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department has further advised relevant authorities and emergency agencies to remain prepared and take precautionary measures to minimize the risk of weather-related incidents.
