Maaz Sadaqat Makes CPL History Despite Kingsmen Final Defeat

BARBADOS: Pakistan’s Maaz Sadaqat made history in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 final, becoming the first overseas player to score two centuries in a single edition of the tournament.
The Jamaica Kingsmen opener smashed a blistering 114 off just 58 balls, including eight fours and nine sixes, against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at Kensington Oval on Sunday.
Sadaqat’s century was his second of the tournament, making him only the fourth batter in CPL history to achieve the feat in a single edition.
He joined Dwayne Smith, who scored two centuries in the 2014 and 2017 editions, and Shimron Hetmyer, who also registered two hundreds during the 2026 season.
Most centuries in a single CPL edition:
Dwayne Smith — 2 (2014)
Dwayne Smith — 2 (2017)
Shimron Hetmyer — 2 (2026)
Maaz Sadaqat — 2 (2026)
Sadaqat also ended the tournament as the third-highest run-scorer, finishing with 363 runs in seven matches at an impressive strike rate of 174.51 and an average of 51.85.
However, his outstanding century could not prevent Jamaica Kingsmen from suffering an eight-wicket defeat in the final.
Batting first, Kingsmen posted 170-9 in their 20 overs, with Sadaqat providing the bulk of the resistance. Saim Ayub was the only other Kingsmen batter to make a notable contribution, scoring 29 off 22 balls with two fours and a six.
Three Kingsmen batters — Kirk McKenzie, captain Rovman Powell and Romaine Morris — were dismissed without scoring. Hassan Khan made one, Keemo Paul scored three, while Andre Russell managed just two runs.
Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ Pakistan spinner Sufiyan Muqeem was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for just 14 runs in his four overs.
Alzarri Joseph took two wickets, while Jayden Seales, Shadab Khan and Shamar Springer claimed one each.
Chasing 171 for the title, the Falcons reached their target in just 16.4 overs after losing two wickets.
Amir Jangoo led the successful chase with a match-winning 57 off 34 deliveries, hitting four fours and three sixes.
Hasan Nawaz then completed the job, remaining unbeaten on 47 from 35 balls, including three fours and three sixes.
The victory secured the CPL 2026 title for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, while Sadaqat’s remarkable century became one of the standout individual performances of the tournament despite ending on the losing side.
