Islamabad’s Residents Struggle to Access Influenza Vaccines

ISLAMABAD: As winter approaches, residents of the federal capital are facing significant challenges in obtaining influenza vaccines, leaving many families concerned about their health.

According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, receiving an annual seasonal flu vaccine is crucial for reducing the risk of influenza and its serious complications.

Naeem Ahmed, a local resident, expressed his frustration, stating that he has been searching for the vaccine for his mother for over a month but has found none available in the market.

“I have been administering the vaccine to my mother for the last many years, but unfortunately this year it seems that my mother will become vulnerable to influenza as the vaccine may remain unavailable,” he lamented.

Another citizen, Sohail Jamil, echoed similar sentiments, reporting that he visited multiple medical stores only to be informed that the vaccine is not available this year.

This shortage raises concerns about public health, especially as the flu season typically sees increased hospitalizations and complications among vulnerable populations.

Health officials have yet to provide a clear explanation for the vaccine shortage, leaving citizens anxious about the implications for their health as winter sets in.

As the situation develops, residents are urged to stay informed about potential vaccine availability and to consider alternative preventive measures.
