Mirpur Division Gets Holiday for AJK Polls

Muzaffarabad: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has declared a public holiday on July 27 in the districts of Mirpur Division to facilitate the first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.

According to an official notification issued on the request of the Election Commission, the holiday will be observed only in the districts of Mirpur Division, where voters will cast their ballots in the opening phase of the electoral process.

Polling will be held in 13 constituencies across the three districts of Mirpur, Bhimber, and Kotli. Election authorities have confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been completed ahead of voting.

The Election Commission said election materials, including ballot papers and other essential documents, have been dispatched to the designated polling stations. Comprehensive security measures have also been put in place to ensure that polling is conducted peacefully and transparently.

The formal election process for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will commence on Sunday. Authorities have warned that anyone attempting to disrupt polling or disturb public order will face strict legal action.

Speaking at a press conference, AJK Chief Secretary Khushal Khan said the people of Azad Kashmir had reaffirmed their confidence in the democratic process and rejected elements seeking to create unrest.

He said all state institutions, including the district administration, the Election Commission, and other relevant departments, had worked in close coordination to complete election preparations.

Khushal Khan added that all constitutional and administrative requirements for the elections had been fulfilled and that every state institution was fully prepared to ensure the peaceful, orderly, and transparent conduct of the polls.
