Islamabad Deploys 22,000 Cops Amid PTI Protest Calls

ISLAMABAD: Authorities in the federal capital and the Rawalpindi Division have launched extensive security preparations, deploying over 22,000 personnel in Islamabad and more than 30,000 in the adjoining Attock district to maintain public order amid impending political rallies and protest calls by opposition parties, notably the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Led by eight Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), the security apparatus in Islamabad is being bolstered while the Rawalpindi police have formally requested an additional 9,000 personnel.
Simultaneously, critical logistical measures are underway, including the large-scale requisitioning of shipping containers to seal off key transit routes.
Officials confirmed that at least 30 entry points across the twin cities, including 11 strategic locations in Rawalpindi, will be barricaded to restrict the movement of demonstrators.
The mass mobilization underscores escalating political tensions as opposition groups push forward with plans for a potential long march toward the federal capital.
The heavy concentration of law enforcement personnel, particularly in Attock—the primary gateway connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab—highlights the state’s intent to preemptively counter major thoroughfare blockades and potential civil unrest that could paralyze economic activity and daily life.
As authorities finalize containment strategies, further deployment of supplementary police contingents is expected to continue across sensitive corridors.
