IHC Summons Islamabad SSP Over Alleged Raids on PTI Leaders

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday summoned the senior superintendent of police (operations) for September 24 in response to a petition filed against the alleged harassment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and unlawful raids on their residences ahead of the party’s planned long march to the capital.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas presided over the hearing, which was initiated by prominent PTI figures including Malik Aamir Dogar and Shoaib Shaheen.
The petitioners’ legal counsel argued before the bench that law enforcement agencies were conducting unauthorized raids on private properties, violating the sanctity of homes and domestic privacy without proper legal authorization.
The counsel urged the court to immediately restrain police officials from continuing these coercive tactics against political workers and leadership.
The judicial intervention comes amid escalating political tensions in the federal capital as opposition parties prepare for large-scale demonstrations.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has separately raised serious concerns, alleging that police authorities are actively intimidating, harassing, and illegally detaining members of the legal fraternity within the twin cities.
During the upcoming September 24 hearing, the Islamabad SSP (operations) is expected to submit a formal report and explanation regarding the legality of the police actions. Legal experts note that the court’s strict directives underscore the judiciary’s commitment to upholding fundamental rights, maintaining due process, and preventing administrative overreach amidst heightened political friction.
