Islamabad: Pakistani students are set to receive a one-year free subscription to Google Gemini, offering them access to Google’s artificial intelligence tools for academic work, research and other educational needs.

The announcement was made by Google Vice President Wilson L. White during an event marking the company’s formal operations in Pakistan. However, students will have to wait for Google’s official registration process before applying, as the eligibility criteria, registration link and verification procedure have not yet been announced.

Who will be eligible?

The exact eligibility requirements for the new offer are yet to be confirmed by Google. However, students may be required to meet conditions similar to those attached to Google’s previous student offer in Pakistan.

These could include:

  • Being enrolled as a student at an eligible Pakistani university
  • Meeting the minimum age requirement, if applicable
  • Having an active Google account
  • Providing proof of student status through a university email, student card or another verification method

These requirements are only possible conditions based on Google’s previous student programme and should not be treated as the confirmed criteria for the new offer.

How will students register?

The final registration procedure has not yet been released. Saad Qaiser Khan, Media Coordinator to Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar, said further details about the free Google Gemini Plus subscription are expected to be announced this week.

Students should therefore avoid registering through unofficial websites, social media posts or links claiming to provide immediate access to the free subscription.

Once Google releases the official registration process, students will be able to determine whether they qualify and what documents or verification will be required.

What could students receive?

The one-year offer is expected to give eligible students access to Google’s advanced Gemini tools, potentially helping them with studying, research, writing, information analysis and other academic tasks.

Google’s current Gemini Plus subscription in Pakistan is reportedly priced at around Rs850 per month. At that rate, a 12-month subscription would cost approximately Rs10,200, meaning eligible students could save around Rs10,000 if the announced offer covers the same service for a full year.

The announcement comes as Google expands its presence in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently unveiled the foundation stone for Google’s Pakistan office in Islamabad, while White highlighted the company’s more than decade-long engagement with the country.

The establishment of Google’s formal operations is also expected to create opportunities for Pakistan’s technology sector, startups and young professionals.

For students, however, the key point is simple: the one-year free Gemini offer has been announced, but the application process is still awaited. Students should rely only on Google’s official announcement for the registration link and confirmed eligibility requirements. Additional input from Aaj News website.
