London: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to spend an extended period in Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking a significant shift after nearly six years of living in the United States.

According to British and US media reports, the family is expected to travel from California to the UK this month, with Archie and Lilibet potentially beginning school there in September. The reports have not been officially confirmed by Buckingham Palace or representatives of the couple, although a source close to Harry and Meghan has reportedly confirmed the plans.

The move would bring Harry and Meghan closer to the British royal family but would not signal a return to royal duties. The couple stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020 and are not expected to resume official responsibilities.

Harry and Meghan are also not expected to live in a royal residence. Instead, their return appears to be driven largely by family considerations, including the children’s education and Harry’s desire to spend more time in Britain.

The reported plans come amid cautious signs of improvement in Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles. The father and son have resumed limited contact, while Charles recently met Archie and Lilibet during their visit to Britain.

The children’s relationship with their grandfather has been particularly significant, as their recent meeting was reportedly the first in-person encounter since 2022.

However, Harry’s relationship with his elder brother, Prince William, remains strained. The brothers have largely remained distant following years of disagreements that became public through interviews, a Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’.

Security concerns have also remained a major obstacle to Harry’s regular visits to Britain. Since stepping away from royal duties, he has challenged changes to his official security arrangements, arguing that the safety of his family remains a key concern.

Harry and Meghan’s proposed return also comes after a mixed period for their commercial ventures in the United States. Their Netflix partnership and other media projects generated considerable attention, while their Spotify deal ended and some of Meghan’s television projects failed to continue.

Their decision to spend more time in Britain could therefore represent more than a family relocation. It may also mark an attempt to establish a new balance between their lives in the United States, their children’s future and Harry’s continuing ties to his family and homeland.

For now, the reported move appears to fall short of a royal reconciliation. Instead, it could signal a gradual reopening of family ties, particularly between Harry and King Charles, while the rift with Prince William remains unresolved.
