Flu Cases Surge in Karachi Hospitals

News Desk

KARACHI: Karachi is experiencing a significant increase in flu cases, with reports indicating a doubling of patients in local hospitals over the past week.

Senior health experts attribute this surge to the recent shift in weather conditions as the city transitions towards winter.

Dr. Irfan Siddiqui, head of the emergency department at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), noted that the daily influx of patients with flu-like symptoms has escalated from 30 to 40 cases to approximately 70 to 80 in just over a week.

He emphasized that while many individuals initially seek treatment at local clinics, it is often only when symptoms worsen that they arrive at hospital emergency departments.

This alarming rise in flu cases suggests a broader public health concern, as the increased number of patients at key healthcare facilities indicates that many more residents may be affected across the city.

Health experts are urging the public to adopt preventive measures, including frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and maintaining hydration to mitigate the spread of the virus.

In light of these developments, health authorities are expected to ramp up public awareness campaigns and encourage vaccination against seasonal flu.

Citizens are advised to remain vigilant as the winter months approach, which typically see an uptick in respiratory illnesses.
