Four New Mpox Cases Detected in KP Hospital

PESHAWAR: The health authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have confirmed four new cases of Mpox, including a couple, raising concerns about potential local transmission of the virus.

Notably, none of the infected individuals have a history of foreign travel, which heightens the urgency of the situation.

Health officials reported that the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University received samples from suspected patients referred by Khyber Teaching Hospital last week.

The tests conducted on Saturday confirmed the presence of Mpox in one woman and three men, who have since been advised to isolate at home.

The patients, two from Nowshera and one each from Peshawar and Mardan, bring the total number of Mpox cases in the province this year to 18, including one fatality.

This alarming trend has prompted health experts to initiate contact tracing and testing of close relatives of the infected individuals to prevent further spread.

As the health department ramps up its response, officials emphasize the importance of vigilance and public awareness to mitigate the risk of local transmission.

Further investigations and monitoring are expected in the coming days as authorities work to contain the outbreak.
