ISLAMABAD: In a shocking incident, burglars have stolen antiques and heirlooms valued at over Rs20 million from the residence of Prince Bahawal Abbas Khan Abbasi, a member of the Nawab of Bahawalpur’s Islamabad, located in the F-8/3 sector of the capital.
The theft is part of a broader wave of crime in Islamabad, where police reported eight separate incidents resulting in losses exceeding Rs34 million.
The family discovered the theft when they found their storeroom broken into, leading to the alarming realization that numerous priceless items were missing.
Among the stolen artifacts are a silver throne chair, silver bowls, gold plates, and a large silver frame adorned with the Bahawalpur State crest. Additionally, antique arms, including old musket guns and swords, were also taken, further highlighting the cultural loss involved.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of cultural heritage in Pakistan, as such heirlooms not only hold significant monetary value but also represent the rich history of the region.
The police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the Pakistan Penal Code, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the need for enhanced security measures in residential areas.
Authorities are currently conducting an inventory of the stolen items, with the family indicating that a supplementary list of missing artifacts will be provided once the stock-taking is complete.
Investigations are underway, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in recovering the stolen treasures.
