IEA Reports Release of 325 Million Barrels of Oil

News Desk

PARIS: The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced on Saturday that its member countries have released 325 million barrels of oil and oil-derivative products from strategic reserves, part of a broader commitment to release 400 million barrels made in March.

This update follows a recent agreement among G7 nations, in coordination with the IEA, to immediately release an additional 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil. This decision aims to alleviate global energy supply concerns exacerbated by the ongoing US-Iran conflict, although it remains unclear whether this new release includes the previously committed 75 million barrels.

The pressure to release diesel reserves has intensified, particularly from the US government under President Donald Trump, as rising fuel prices impact consumers both domestically and internationally. The conflict in the Middle East, particularly Iran’s actions to restrict ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, has further complicated the situation, leading to significant disruptions in diesel supply.

Looking ahead, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, with potential further releases from strategic reserves expected as countries seek to stabilize energy markets. Upcoming discussions among G7 leaders may also address long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of geopolitical tensions on global oil supplies.
