TAXILA: The body of police constable Zain Abbas, who drowned while on security duty during the PTI march in Attock, was recovered from the Brotha Lake section of the Ghazi Barotha Canal on Saturday, eight days after the tragic incident, according to police sources.

Constable Abbas was stationed at Kotkay in Hazro tehsil for the protest’s security arrangements.

Reports indicate that he slipped while attempting to collect water from the canal bank, leading to his fall into the deep waters where he subsequently drowned. His family, hailing from Mandi Bahauddin, has been informed of the recovery.

This incident highlights the risks faced by police personnel deployed for political events, especially amid heightened tensions surrounding the PTI’s activities.

The large-scale deployment of law enforcement in Attock underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining order during politically charged gatherings.

Following the recovery of his body, police officials confirmed that necessary legal and medico-legal procedures would be conducted at a local hospital. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to follow, as authorities aim to ensure the safety of personnel in future deployments.
