Lahore University’s Bollywood Day Sparks Online Debate

News Desk

Lahore: The internet is divided over a Lahore university’s celebration of Bollywood Day as one of its senior batch goodbye festivities. Others criticised the students for their “vilifying” behaviour and for “shamelessly” representing the film industry that “often seeks to generate anti-Pakistan movies”, while others hoped they could travel back in time and dress up as their favourite Indian actors.

A video, posted on TikTok originally, made rounds on Twitter which started the debate.

While opinions on the internet regarding the appropriateness of such celebrations vary, everyone can agree that the students obviously understood the assignment. The students gave it their all, portraying characters from Mohabbatein’s Raj Malhotra to Ajay Devgn’s renowned Inspector Bajirao Singham and Student of the Year’s Shanaya Singhania.

While some on Twitter are criticising people who are celebrating, others are bemoaning how minor concerns are given more attention than larger ones.

Friends and colleagues from the film industry extended warm wishes to the new parents. Celebrities including Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Farah Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Ali Fazal congratulated the couple, joining fans in showering blessings and prayers for the newborn.

Mumbai: Bollywood actors Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa have welcomed a baby girl, marking a joyous new chapter in their lives, Indian media reported on Friday.
