Islamabad: All political parties should make the preservation of women’s and transgender person’s rights a top priority in their manifestos to put an end to discrimination, exploitation and violence against the transgender community nationwide, said Transgender Human Rights Activist Nayab Ali.

Nayab Ali stated that due to the non-implementations of laws and lack of awareness among the masses about the protection of women and transgender’s rights, incidences of harassment and violence have risen in recent years and the number of crimes has also been rising steadily.

Transgender Ali further said that in order to stop violence against women and transgender people, more efforts are needed than just laws to curb such incidences.

While vehemently denouncing the murder of transgender Mahnoor in Swat, the activist for transgender rights made an appeal to the relevant authorities for prompt justice for her family.

A transgender person Muhammad Osama alias Mahnoor was shot dead and another injured under mysterious circumstances in Swat on Sunday.

According to the police, the victims were returning after an event when armed attackers intercepted them at Taj Chowk in Mingora and opened indiscriminate fire at them. As a result, Mahnoor was killed on the spot and his colleague Israr alias Gulalai suffered bullet injuries.
