Adiala Jail Prisoner Escapes from BBH Hospital Ward

Rawalpindi: A prisoner brought from Adiala Jail for medical treatment escaped from Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi, police said on Friday.

According to police officials, the convict identified as Jamil had been arrested in a drug-related case and was later sentenced by the court. He was under custody when he was shifted to the hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Waris Khan Police Station over the escape incident. Two police personnel on duty, ASI Imran Ahmed and Constable Qamar Ali, have also been nominated in the FIR.

As per the initial report, the convict along with his son Adnan was taken out of the ward on a wheelchair by an unidentified individual. They allegedly managed to flee the hospital in a vehicle.

Officials said Jamil had been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted in a drug trafficking case. Police have launched an investigation and efforts are underway to trace and re-arrest the escaped prisoner.
