ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers in Pakistan’s National Assembly and Senate voiced serious concerns on Thursday regarding the deteriorating political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting alleged human rights violations and calling for urgent electoral reforms to strengthen parliamentary institutions.

During the session, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai criticized the government for its lack of transparency in recent diplomatic engagements with Tehran, questioning how a handful of individuals could dictate the nation’s future.

He warned that such unilateral decisions could lead to chaos and civil unrest. Achakzai also condemned the suspension of trade with Afghanistan, emphasizing the historical ties and friendship between the two nations.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan echoed these sentiments, stating that the current parliamentary proceedings and the political climate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are fostering a negative perception among the populace. He urged for a more inclusive approach to governance that reflects the will of the people.

As discussions continue, lawmakers are expected to convene further meetings to address these pressing issues, with a focus on implementing necessary electoral reforms and ensuring the protection of human rights in the region.

Achakzai also condemned the suspension of trade with Afghanistan, emphasizing the historical ties and friendship between the two nations.
