Yemen Launches Major Offensive Against Houthis
News Desk
ISTANBUL: Yemen’s internationally-recognised government initiated a significant military campaign on Sunday to reclaim territory from the Houthis, coinciding with an emergency summit in Riyadh involving leaders from Pakistan, Turkiye, and Saudi Arabia.
The offensive, announced by Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s presidential council, aims to retake all areas recently captured by the Houthis.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar indicated that the Makkah Defence Alliance’s Strategic Political Defence Committee (SPDC) would address the ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia during the meeting.
As fighting escalates, the Houthis reported that Saudi Arabia had conducted numerous airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks on an Aramco facility near Riyadh.
This ongoing conflict raises concerns about regional stability and the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which has been devastated by years of war.
Looking ahead, the Riyadh summit is expected to focus on strategies to counter Houthi aggression and strengthen regional alliances. The outcomes of these discussions could significantly impact the geopolitical landscape in the Middle East and the humanitarian efforts in Yemen.
