US Envoy To Meet Putin After Positive Talks with Zelensky

News Desk

SAINT PETERSBURG: US envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Saint Petersburg on Wednesday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, following what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as ‘positive’ discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to mend relations between the US and Ukraine, which have been strained due to recent geopolitical tensions.

After his talks with Witkoff in Oslo, Zelensky expressed gratitude towards Washington for resuming intelligence sharing regarding Russian military strikes, a critical support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.

This diplomatic engagement comes on the heels of a contentious period marked by Trump’s controversial diesel-supply deal with Putin and calls for Zelensky’s replacement, which had raised concerns about US commitment to Ukraine’s defense.

The positive tone from both sides signals a potential thaw in relations, crucial for the stability of the region.

Looking ahead, Witkoff’s discussions with Putin are expected to address key issues surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war and may pave the way for further diplomatic initiatives.

Observers will be keen to see how these talks influence the broader geopolitical landscape and the future of US support for Ukraine.
