Rawalpindi: Security forces have killed two militants belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khwarij, including their ringleader Waheedullah alias Muktiar, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement, ISPR said that after an intense exchange of fire, the two militants were neutralised. A suicide bomber, along with weapons, ammunition, and a suicide jacket, was also recovered from their possession.

Waheedullah, identified as the ringleader, was listed among the most wanted terrorists due to his involvement in multiple terrorist activities, including the killing of security personnel and civilians.

He was also said to be the main handler of a suicide bomber involved in an attack in Bannu on February 21, 2026, which resulted in the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz Shaheed.

The statement said the operation avenged the attack and eliminated a key perpetrator, while timely action by security forces averted a major catastrophe.

A sanitisation operation is underway to clear the area of any remaining militants. ISPR further stated that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace to eliminate terrorism from the country.
