Sindh Vows Support for Karachi Airport and Sukkur Airfield Projects

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday pledged the provincial government’s unwavering support for the Pakistan Airports Authority’s (PAA) ambitious aviation development package, which includes constructing a new greenfield airport in Sukkur and expanding Jinnah International Airport (JIAP).
Chairing a high-level meeting with a PAA delegation led by Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed at CM House, the chief minister emphasized the strategic importance of modernizing aviation infrastructure to boost regional connectivity and economic growth across the province.
During the comprehensive session, participants reviewed four transformative initiatives: the proposed greenfield airport in Sukkur, the upgradation and expansion of JIAP in Karachi, the modernization of Hyderabad Airport, and the conversion of the Civil Aviation Training Institute (CATI) in Hyderabad into Pakistan’s premier dedicated aviation university.
CM Shah directed key provincial bodies—including the planning, revenue, and works departments, alongside district administrations in Karachi and Sukkur—to fast-track administrative processes regarding land acquisition, land records, and vital road connectivity alignments.
The concerted push toward aviation infrastructure development is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacities, facilitate international cargo movement, and stimulate trade and tourism within Sindh.
Transforming CATI into a specialized university also marks a pivotal step toward cultivating domestic expertise in aerospace engineering, aviation management, and technical training, thereby reducing reliance on foreign institutions and generating high-skilled employment opportunities for Pakistani youth.
As the provincial administration coordinates closely with federal aviation authorities, relevant departments are slated to finalize land allotment and regional development frameworks in the coming weeks.
The timely execution of these projects is projected to position Sindh as a major aviation hub in South Asia, setting a robust benchmark for public-sector collaboration between federal and provincial stakeholders.
