Sindh Seeks NCCIA Support to Curb Fake News

KARACHI: In a decisive move against digital misinformation, the Sindh government has officially decided to seek assistance from the national institution NCCIA to combat fake news and misleading propaganda across the province.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting of the Information Department held under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Officials extensively deliberated on the growing menace of fabricated digital content, noting that malicious campaigns and unverified reports on social media platforms continue to create unwarranted panic and social discord.
This institutional collaboration aims to leverage advanced technical frameworks and investigative capabilities to trace origins of malicious propaganda and penalize perpetrators.
The provincial administration emphasized that while freedom of expression remains protected, deliberate dissemination of engineered disinformation targeting state institutions and public figures will no longer be tolerated under any pretext.
Following this crucial meeting, relevant departments have been directed to streamline coordination protocols with federal entities and formulate a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) to monitor digital platforms, ensuring swift counter-narratives and legal actions against habitual offenders in the coming days.
