Karachi Under Heat As Power Outages Disrup Daily Life

KARACHI: Residents of Pakistan’s largest metropolis are enduring another day of intense heat and humidity, compounded by severe and prolonged electricity load-shedding that has severely disrupted daily life across various neighborhoods.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature in the port city was recorded at 27.7 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature hovers around 29 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels remain significantly high, amplifying the discomfort and making the ambient conditions feel much hotter than actual readings.
The combination of soaring temperatures and intermittent power supplies has placed immense strain on local communities, particularly vulnerable demographics such as children and the elderly.
Hospitals and healthcare centers have reported a steady influx of heat-related complaints, including dehydration and exhaustion, as citizens struggle to find relief from the stifling environment.
Utility authorities and power distribution companies face mounting pressure from civil society and local representatives to stabilize the grid and minimize outages.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has advised citizens to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and limit direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours as humid conditions persist.
