Peshawar: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Saturday distributed sacrificial meat among the marginalised transgender community and artists, aiming to involve these neglected segments of transgender people in Eid celebrations by arranging a get-together for them.

NGO Manager Media Noorul Wahid Jadoon said that the ceremony was held at the main office of Al-Khidmat Foundation on GT Road, Peshawar.

“This is a very welcoming initiative taken by the Al-Khidmat Foundation and has won our hearts,” remarked a transgender person.

Trans people live in isolation because they have been rejected by both society and even their own families. trans stated, adding that such behaviour has a detrimental effect on transgender people who view themselves as outsiders in society.

The transgender community recommended that all other organisations adopt and replicate Al-Khidmat’s strategy in order to mainstream transgender people and assist them in overcoming the mental stress and trauma they experience as a result of the stigma associated with their gender and social rejection.
