Rubio Declares Western Civilisation at Crossroads in Fiery Athens Speech

ATHENS: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared on Wednesday that Western civilisation is at a critical inflection point, urging a revitalisation of alliances and calling on Europe to awaken from its prolonged slumber.

Speaking beneath the iconic Acropolis, Rubio emphasised the urgency of the moment, stating, “We are at an inflection point… not only in the history of my nation but an inflection point in the whole of our civilisation.”

In a passionate address, Rubio asserted the necessity for the United States to assert its “national power” and embrace technological advancements to avoid a decline. He warned, “Either we choose to act now, or lose the choice to act at all.”

His remarks were underscored by references to historical figures like Alexander the Great, reflecting a call to action reminiscent of past leaders.

Rubio’s speech comes on the heels of previous comments made in February, where he highlighted the threats posed by mass immigration to Europe and advocated for the defence of Christian values.

He argued that the US, under President Donald Trump, has made a decisive choice to pursue national power unapologetically, focusing on reclaiming critical supply chains and reindustrialising the economy.

Looking ahead, Rubio’s statements signal a potential shift in US foreign policy, with implications for transatlantic relations and global stability.

As Europe grapples with its own challenges, the call for renewed alliances may shape upcoming diplomatic engagements and discussions on security and economic cooperation.
