Rain, windstorms kill 5, injure 45 in Punjab, KP

Islamabad: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept across several cities of Punjab and parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, leaving at least five people dead and 45 others injured in rain-related incidents and accidents.

The affected areas in Punjab included Lahore, Kasur, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Chichawatni and Pakpattan, where strong winds and downpours disrupted daily life and caused power outages in multiple areas of the LESCO region.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four people lost their lives and 16 others were injured in various incidents reported in Bannu amid severe weather conditions.

Heavy rain also lashed Dera Ismail Khan, where strong winds uprooted trees at several locations. Falling electricity poles caused multiple power feeders to trip, while at least four people sustained injuries in separate accidents.

Meanwhile, rain coupled with hailstorm was reported in Barmal tehsil of South Waziristan, adding to the weather-related disruptions in the region.

Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious as unstable weather conditions are expected to continue in several areas.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms in several parts of the country from today (Friday) through June 13, bringing possible relief from the ongoing heatwave.

According to the Met Office, weather conditions are expected to change in multiple regions, with rain predicted in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Balochistan.
