PTI Cancels DI Khan Rally After Attack Leaves Workers Injured

D I KHAN: Three Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers sustained injuries after a group of unidentified assailants allegedly assaulted them during preparations for a public gathering, prompting the opposition party to call off the scheduled event.
The incident occurred late Saturday night at the district auditorium hall, where party members were actively engaged in setting up venue arrangements and erecting banners ahead of Sunday’s political power show.
Reporting the details to the local cantonment police station, 25-year-old complainant Ramzan Marwat stated that nine to 10 unknown suspects suddenly stormed the premises.
According to the police FIR, the attackers subjected the workers to physical manhandling, deprived them of their mobile phones, and subsequently set fire to the displayed political banners.
Mr Marwat and two of his colleagues suffered varying injuries during the sudden escalation of violence at the venue.
Political analysts view the abrupt cancellation of the Dera Ismail Khan rally as a reflection of the tense security climate and recurring administrative hurdles faced by the opposition party in executing public mobilisations.
Incidents of localized violence during political preparations not only undermine democratic space and freedom of assembly but also heighten polarization between political actors and law enforcement agencies across the region.
Local law enforcement authorities confirmed that a formal case has been registered and a comprehensive investigation launched to ascertain the identities of the culprits and uncover the exact motives behind the assault.
