Pakistan Targets Youth Through Eco-Tourism Drive

Islamabad: Pakistan’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism received a boost after the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) partnered with the Pakistan Boys Scouts Association (PBSA) to encourage young people to participate in eco-friendly and educational tourism activities.

The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Islamabad aimed at strengthening cooperation on programmes that combine outdoor adventure, environmental awareness and youth development.

Under the agreement, PTDC and PBSA will work together to introduce initiatives such as hiking expeditions, trekking programmes, nature camps, environmental conservation events, leadership workshops and other activities designed to connect young people with Pakistan’s natural and cultural heritage.

PTDC Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana said involving young people in constructive outdoor activities would help build leadership skills, promote healthy lifestyles and encourage greater appreciation of the country’s tourism potential.

He said tourism offers opportunities for youth to learn from nature while contributing positively to society, adding that the collaboration would strengthen the capacity of scouts through practical learning experiences.

PBSA Chief Commissioner Sarfaraz Qamar Daha welcomed the partnership, saying it would help educate young people about Pakistan’s history, culture and diverse landscapes while encouraging greater participation in adventure and educational tourism.

He said outdoor activities play an important role in character building and personal development, making them valuable for the country’s younger generation.

The agreement also provides a framework for both organisations to collaborate on national and international programmes, exchange information and jointly organise awareness campaigns promoting responsible tourism and environmental protection.

Officials said the initiative is expected to encourage more young Pakistanis to explore the country’s natural attractions while fostering a culture of sustainable travel and conservation.
