Pakistan Stock Exchange Maintains Gains Amid Regional Turmoil and Inflation
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) demonstrated resilience on Thursday, maintaining its gains above the 166,000 mark despite ongoing regional and political challenges that threaten macroeconomic stability. Investors engaged in value-hunting for the second consecutive session, propelling the benchmark KSE-100 index to close at 166,186.17, up by 768.66 points or 0.46 percent.
According to Topline Securities Ltd, the index fluctuated between 165,613 and 166,877 throughout the trading session, reflecting sustained positive momentum driven by renewed buying interest in key index-heavy stocks following a recent market correction. However, investor sentiment remained cautious, influenced by volatility in international oil prices and domestic macroeconomic indicators.
Ali Najib, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Ltd, noted that while the market showed signs of recovery, the prevailing uncertainty surrounding oil prices and geopolitical developments in the Middle East could impact future trading sessions. This cautious approach underscores the delicate balance investors must navigate amid fluctuating economic conditions.
Looking ahead, market analysts will closely monitor upcoming economic indicators and geopolitical developments that could influence investor confidence. The PSX’s ability to sustain its upward trajectory will depend on both domestic economic policies and external market conditions.
