ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill 2026 has been approved, imposing severe penalties for the production and importation of substandard cosmetics.

The legislation, passed by the Senate’s Standing Committee on Science and Technology, aims to enhance consumer safety and ensure quality in the cosmetics industry.

During a crucial meeting chaired by Senator Kamil Ali Agha, committee members discussed the implications of the bill, which stipulates a prison sentence of up to seven years and fines reaching 5 million PKR for violators.

This move is seen as a significant step towards protecting consumers from harmful products that could pose health risks.

The approval of this bill reflects a growing awareness of public health issues related to cosmetics and personal care products in Pakistan.

With the rise in demand for beauty products, the government recognizes the need for stringent regulations to safeguard consumers and promote industry accountability.

Looking ahead, the bill will be presented to the National Assembly for further deliberation.

Stakeholders in the cosmetics industry and consumer rights advocates are expected to closely monitor the legislative process, as the final outcome could reshape the market landscape and enhance consumer trust in cosmetic products.
