Pakistan and EU Sign Agreements for Strategic Development
News Desk
ISLAMABAD:Pakistan and the European Union on Monday formalized financing agreements worth €65 million, equivalent to approximately $75 million, aimed at bolstering global gateway investments, reinforcing the rule of law, and driving environmental resilience across the country. The signing ceremony in the federal capital brought together key diplomatic and economic stakeholders to cement bilateral cooperation under the EU’s ongoing strategic framework.
The accord was formally signed by EU Ambassador to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis and Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Muhammad Humair Karim on behalf of their respective authorities.
Funded through the EU’s Multiannual Indicative Programme 2021-2027, the substantial financial package translates to roughly Rs20.64 billion and is channeled into three distinct developmental pillars: the Global Gateway Development Facilitation for Pakistan, the Energy and Natural Environment Resilience initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and targeted support for the rule of law and business climate.
For Pakistan’s evolving economy, the injection of these funds carries profound implications, particularly in creating a more predictable and legally sound environment for commercial enterprises.
The first component, focused on Global Gateway Development Facilitation, is strategically designed to improve the national tax framework, optimize investment management, and cultivate an enabling financial ecosystem that actively draws foreign direct investment.
Moving forward, implementation teams from both the Economic Affairs Division and the European Union delegation will oversee the rollout of the three targeted programs. Subsequent milestones will involve regular progress reviews and joint monitoring committees to ensure that the allocated resources efficiently meet their stated benchmarks for sustainable growth and regional development.
