Maryam Nawaz celebrates daughter’s graduation

London:  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has described her youngest daughter Mahnoor Safdar’s graduation from SOAS University of London as a deeply proud and joyful moment for her family.

Maryam attended the graduation ceremony in London during a brief private visit to the British capital, travelling specifically to be present as her daughter completed her university education in Anthropology.

Speaking to Geo News after the ceremony, Maryam said seeing her youngest daughter graduate was a moment of immense happiness and gratitude.

“I am very happy about my daughter’s graduation. I thank God that my youngest daughter has also completed her graduation,” she said.

She said there could hardly be a more rewarding moment for parents than watching their children complete their education.

“I wish that every parent gets to experience this happiness and that every child gets the opportunity to receive a good education,” Maryam said.

Mahnoor, the youngest of Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar’s three children, studied Anthropology at SOAS from 2023 to 2026 and graduated as part of the university’s September 2026 graduation ceremonies in central London.

For Maryam, the occasion also marked the completion of higher education for all three of her children.

“My three children have completed their higher education,” she said, describing the achievement as a source of happiness and pride for herself and her family.

A private family visit

Maryam’s trip to London was kept largely private, with no formal political engagements announced during her short stay.

During the visit, however, she met PML-N UK leaders Ahsan Dar and Khurram Butt for a luncheon meeting.

Her brief stay also brought questions about political developments in Pakistan, including reports of differences within the PML-N and the debate surrounding the creation of new provinces and administrative units.

Rejecting speculation about divisions within the ruling party, Maryam said the PML-N remained united.

“Who said the party is divided?” she said, adding that several people had previously attempted to split the party but had failed.

“Many came who tried to divide the PML-N, and many went away. The PML-N is still standing where it was,” she said.

From family milestone to governance

Turning to governance, the Punjab chief minister said other provinces should also pursue development and public welfare initiatives with the same level of effort.

Maryam said her government was working “day and night” for development in Punjab, stressing that visible results required sustained effort.

For the chief minister, the London visit thus combined a personal family milestone with brief political remarks, but the occasion remained centred on a mother celebrating the completion of her youngest daughter’s education.
