Rawalpindi Imposes Rain Emergency

RAWALPINDI: The district administration has imposed an immediate rain emergency across Rawalpindi and placed all municipal services, emergency response units, and civic bodies on high alert following heavy downpours that lashed the twin cities.
Acting on the directives of Rawalpindi Commissioner Usman Ghani and Deputy Commissioner Capt (R) Nadeem Nasir, specialized departments including the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rescue 1122, and the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company have mobilized field teams.
Heavy machinery and de-watering pumps have been deployed to low-lying areas vulnerable to urban flooding as persistent rainfall continues to swell local stormwater drains.
The sudden spell of heavy monsoon rain has significantly disrupted routine civic life, causing water accumulation on major thoroughfares and creating traffic bottlenecks across commercial districts. Commuters faced severe difficulties during morning rush hours, prompting traffic police to deploy additional personnel to manage alternate routes and assist stranded motorists.
Authorities have confirmed that control rooms are monitoring water levels in the Leh Nullah and other catchment areas round-the-clock.
Citizens have been advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel during peak downpours, and steer clear of electrical poles and hanging wires as emergency responders remain stationed across critical urban zones.
