Singapore Actor Thomas Moves Into Two-Room Flat

SINGAPORE: Local actor and host Thomas Ong has revealed that he moved into a two-room Flexi flat more than a month ago, describing the compact home as a simple and comfortable space that suits his lifestyle.
The 57-year-old actor, who refers to himself as “Lao Wang” (Senior Ong), shared the update in a Facebook post on September 25. He said his new home measures 38 square metres, making it one of the smallest types of HDB flats in Singapore.
Ong joked about the limited space, saying the bedroom, kitchen and toilet are only a few steps apart. He said the compact layout has encouraged him to spend more time outside, including visiting a nearby shopping mall for meals, exercising and taking walks.
He also shared a glimpse of his cosy living room, featuring dark wooden cabinets, a grey sofa and matching gingham cushions.
“For me, home has become very simple,” Ong said, explaining that he now views his home mainly as a place to rest, relax and enjoy some quiet time.
He added that living in a smaller space has made cleaning and tidying much easier and less time-consuming. After more than a month in the apartment, he said he was pleased with the renovation and found himself enjoying being at home.
In April, Ong had shared the floor plan of his new flat on Facebook, describing it as the “happiest thing that happened this year.” He said he had waited about a year and a half and applied twice before securing the apartment through Singapore’s Sale of Balance Flat exercise.
Ong had previously lived in a renovated three-room resale flat, which he featured with an interior designer in two YouTube videos in 2023. At the time, he said he wanted a “cool, minimalist art gallery” style for the home to showcase his collection of artworks, including a large portrait of Singapore’s late founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
In November 2024, Ong said he was selling the 170cm by 150cm artwork for S$4,000 as he was moving to a smaller home. He said the proceeds would be donated to two primary schools in Cambodia.
