ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has consented to sign a written agreement focused primarily on counterterrorism, as announced by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday. The agreement is expected to be finalized along with an implementation plan within the next 72 hours.

This announcement follows a second round of extensive negotiations between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which governs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but is currently in opposition at the federal level. The talks ended in a stalemate just hours before PTI’s planned protest march, highlighting the ongoing political friction in the country.

The agreement is seen as a crucial step in addressing the rising security concerns in the region, particularly in light of recent terrorist activities. It underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing security measures and fostering cooperation between federal and provincial authorities in combating terrorism.

Looking ahead, the implementation of this agreement will be closely monitored, with further discussions anticipated to ensure effective execution. The political landscape remains tense as PTI prepares for its protest, which could influence future negotiations and the overall stability in the region.
