JI Launches Third Phase of Protest Against Petroleum Levy Tax

News Desk

KARACHI: Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced the commencement of the third phase of protests against the petroleum levy tax starting this Friday.

Speaking at an event in Karachi, he emphasized that the movement against what he termed a ‘tax extortion’ is gaining momentum and aims to mobilize citizens against the government’s fiscal policies.

Rehman criticized the government’s imposition of the petroleum levy, arguing that it disproportionately affects the lower and middle classes.

He stated, “This levy is not just a tax; it is a burden on the common man, and we will not rest until it is abolished.” The protests are expected to draw significant public participation, reflecting widespread discontent over rising fuel prices and economic hardships.

The implications of this protest are significant for the current government, as public dissent over economic policies can lead to increased political instability.

With inflation already straining household budgets, the petroleum levy has become a focal point for opposition parties to rally support against the ruling administration.

As the protests begin, Jamaat-e-Islami plans to hold rallies across major cities, aiming to escalate their campaign.

Observers are keenly watching how the government will respond to these demonstrations and whether they will lead to any policy changes regarding the petroleum levy.
