Iranian Interior Minister Lands in Pakistan for Key Talks

Islamabad: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a high-level visit expected to focus on border security, regional stability, and expanding bilateral cooperation, as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement on regional peace efforts.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received Momeni and his delegation at Islamabad International Airport, where Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moqadam were also present.

Welcoming the visiting minister, Naqvi expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen Pakistan-Iran ties and lead to positive developments on regional issues.

The Iranian delegation includes the Governor General of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran’s deputy interior minister, deputy minister for urban development and transport, the head of the National Iranian Oil Company, the special representative of the agriculture minister, and other senior officials.

During his stay, Momeni is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The discussions are expected to cover bilateral relations, border management, economic cooperation, trade, and the evolving regional security situation.

In a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi after his arrival, Momeni described Pakistan-Iran relations as “exemplary” and said the brotherly ties between the two neighboring countries had grown stronger over time. He also thanked the Pakistani government and people for their warm hospitality.

Naqvi said the visit would help deepen cooperation and create new opportunities for collaboration across multiple sectors.

The visit comes at a time when Pakistan is maintaining active diplomatic engagement to ease regional tensions following recent instability involving Iran. Islamabad has continued to advocate dialogue and regional peace while strengthening coordination with neighboring countries on security and economic issues.
