Textile Exporters Urge Govt for Support
News Desk
ISLAMABAD: Textile and clothing exporters are calling on the government to implement structural reforms and provide temporary financial assistance to mitigate the sector’s decline and safeguard Pakistan’s position in international markets, as global competition intensifies.
The appeal was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul on Tuesday, where participants discussed the challenges facing the textile industry and potential policy measures to enhance export competitiveness. According to sources, issue-based subcomm
ittees have been formed to address the industry’s concerns and are expected to submit their recommendations within 15 days.
Exporters emphasized the need for structural reforms to tackle the escalating cost of production.
They also requested immediate relief through a drawback of local taxes and levies (DLTL) ranging from six to eight percent on total export sales, contingent upon achieving a 10% growth in exports.
This proposed incentive aims to sustain production levels and promote higher export volumes.
Looking ahead, the establishment of subcommittees signifies a proactive approach to resolving the textile sector’s issues.
The recommendations from these groups will be crucial in shaping future policies and ensuring the industry’s resilience in the face of mounting challenges.
