TEHRAN: Iran has offered to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, calling for a political solution to regional tensions and warning that continued military action would further aggravate conflicts.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan. According to reports, Araghchi stressed that dialogue and diplomatic engagement were essential to resolving regional disputes and expressed Tehran’s readiness to extend all possible cooperation to support negotiations between Riyadh and Yemen.

The conversation took place amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following an attack on Saudi airports reportedly carried out by an Iran-backed militia, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

In a message posted on Telegram, Araghchi reiterated that the use of force would not resolve regional crises, emphasizing the need to prioritize political engagement over military confrontation.

The Iranian foreign minister had also said last week that war with the United States was not an option, stressing that addressing issues of justice and fairness was essential to resolving ongoing disputes.

Meanwhile, the US president has said he is reviewing Washington’s role in Yemen and reassessing aspects of its policy toward Iran. The statement signals a possible shift in the administration’s approach, following earlier indications that the issue would not be addressed before the US midterm elections.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have experienced significant fluctuations in recent years. However, the two countries agreed to restore diplomatic relations under a China-brokered agreement in 2023, opening the way for renewed engagement and efforts to establish mechanisms for continued dialogue.

Despite those diplomatic efforts, tensions across the Gulf have intensified amid attacks on US installations and energy infrastructure, including Saudi oil facilities, attributed in the report to Iran and its allies.

In March 2026, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister warned that the patience of Riyadh and other Gulf nations had run out, arguing that Tehran’s regional strategy posed a growing threat to regional peace and security.

Iran’s latest offer of cooperation comes against this backdrop of heightened regional tensions, with diplomacy facing the challenge of preventing further escalation and advancing a political settlement.
