Hurricane Leaves Thousands Without Power in Russia

Kushva: A powerful hurricane swept through Russia’s Sverdlovsk region, injuring at least 16 people and causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, local authorities reported on Tuesday.

According to the regional Emergencies Ministry, more than 5,000 homes in the town of Kushva and the village of Baranchinskoe remain without electricity following the storm. 

The hurricane damaged over 60 rooftops and seven vehicles, disrupting daily life across the affected areas.

Six people sought medical treatment for injuries sustained during the storm, while emergency crews continued efforts to assess and repair the damage.

In response to the situation, Kushva Municipal District Head Mikhail Slepukhin declared a state of emergency. Repair teams have been deployed to restore damaged power lines and other critical infrastructure.

Authorities said residents displaced by the storm have been accommodated in temporary shelters as recovery operations continue.

5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts China’s Qinghai Province

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck northwest China’s Qinghai Province late Tuesday night, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).

The quake occurred at 11:29 pm Beijing Time and was recorded at a depth of 8 kilometres, CENC said in a statement.

Authorities reported no casualties or property damage following the earthquake.
