Heading to Oman? Check Updated Duty-Free Limits

Islamabad: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) Directorate General of Customs has announced updated duty-free baggage regulations for travellers entering the Sultanate, introducing revised limits on the value of personal belongings and tobacco products.

Under Decision No. 110/2026, travellers may bring personal belongings and gifts into Oman without paying customs duties, provided the total value does not exceed OMR300. The items must be intended for personal use and carried in non-commercial quantities.

The revised regulations also reduce the duty-free allowance for cigarettes from 400 to 200 per traveller. Any quantity exceeding the new limit will be subject to customs duties.

According to the Directorate General of Customs, the exemption applies only to travellers who do not frequently cross customs checkpoints and are not involved in trading the goods they carry. The measure is intended to prevent the misuse of personal baggage exemptions for commercial imports.

The amendments are part of broader changes to the Executive Regulations of the GCC Unified Customs Law, which also introduce electronic customs clearance procedures and update rules covering temporary imports, postal consignments, humanitarian relief shipments and imports for persons with disabilities.

The Directorate General of Customs has advised travellers to review the revised regulations before arriving in Oman to facilitate a smooth customs clearance process.
