Meta Explains Why WhatsApp Accounts Were Blocked

Islamabad: Meta has confirmed that a technical issue led to the suspension of thousands of WhatsApp accounts worldwide, assuring users that efforts are underway to restore access.

The company issued the clarification after numerous users reported on social media that their WhatsApp accounts had been suddenly blocked without any apparent reason. 

Affected users said they were unable to access the messaging platform and instead received a notice stating that their account and device details were being reviewed to ensure compliance with WhatsApp‘s terms of service.

According to users, the message indicated they would receive an update within 24 hours, prompting widespread concern that their accounts had been permanently suspended.

In a statement, Meta acknowledged the issue and said it was caused by an internal problem rather than user activity. The company added that it is working to restore access to affected accounts as quickly as possible.

Meta, however, did not disclose the cause of the technical fault or specify which countries or regions were impacted.

With WhatsApp serving more than three billion users globally, even a limited technical glitch has the potential to affect thousands of accounts, leading to widespread complaints across social media platforms.
