Govt Announces Marginal Reduction in Petroleum Prices Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In a modest relief for citizens, the federal government on Tuesday announced a minor reduction in the prices of petroleum products following approval from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). According to the notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been slashed by 84 paisas per litre, taking effect immediately at midnight for a designated period.
The latest adjustment comes as part of the fortnightly or periodic price review mechanism overseen by regulatory authorities.
While the reduction is relatively nominal, officials maintain that the recalibration reflects ongoing adjustments in international oil markets and exchange rate variations, striving to pass on even minimal relief to the end consumers whenever feasible.
Despite the downward revision, commuters and transport operators argue that the fractional decrease will do little to offset the broader inflationary pressures burdening households.
Public transport fares and the cost of essential food commodities remain high, largely driven by previous cumulative hikes in fuel and energy tariffs over the past fiscal quarters.
Market analysts anticipate that subsequent price reviews will heavily depend on global crude oil trends and geopolitical stability in major oil-producing regions.
The government is expected to maintain close surveillance on international supply chains as part of its broader fiscal management strategy.
