Governor Kundi Asks KP CM To Resign Amid Security Failures

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday called for the immediate resignation of the provincial chief minister, asserting that the provincial administration has failed to curb escalating militant threats, maintain public safety, and safeguard even its own cabinet members.

Speaking at a press conference at the Governor’s House in Peshawar, the governor censured the regional administration for what he characterized as a complete breakdown of governance, accusing top provincial executives of abandoning their primary responsibilities toward the welfare and security of the people.

Reiterating the constitutional scope of his role, Governor Kundi underscored that governor’s rule could be imposed whenever the President and Prime Minister deem it appropriate under prevailing administrative and security exigencies.

Addressing bureaucratic friction, he affirmed that he will continue exercising his authority to summon the provincial chief secretary and inspector general of police to review ongoing crises.

“The provincial government must study the Constitution to comprehend the duties and authority of the governor’s office,” Kundi stated, adding that resource mismanagement cannot be ignored.

The sharp exchange highlights deepening political friction between federal representatives and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government at a time when the province is grappling with a severe resurgence of militant violence.

Security observers warn that institutional standoffs between the governor and the provincial leadership risk paralyzing administrative coordination, undermining police morale, and stalling vital counter-terrorism operations across volatile border regions.

With the provincial government anticipated to issue a formal rejoinder, tensions in Peshawar remain heightened amid speculation regarding future federal interventions.

Governor Kundi maintained that further reviews of the province’s security apparatus and governance metrics will proceed without compromise, pressing provincial leaders to redirect focus away from political confrontation and toward protecting citizen lives.
