KARACHI: An 11-year-old seminary student was left battling for his life after surviving a harrowing sexual assault attempt and knife attack in the Ittehad Town neighbourhood of Karachi, sparking widespread outrage and prompting urgent law enforcement action on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Raja Tanveer Colony, where a 15-year-old suspect reportedly trapped the victim, identified as Sufiyan, in an isolated location.
According to preliminary findings by the Sindh Police, the suspect attempted to violate the boy and, upon facing stiff resistance, slashed the child’s throat with a sharp-edged blade in a desperate bid to silence him.
Rescue teams rushed the severely wounded child to the Civil Hospital Karachi trauma center, where surgeons carried out emergency procedures to arrest critical blood loss and stabilize his vital signs.
The brutal incident underscores persistent concerns surrounding the physical safety of children and seminary students across Pakistan’s densely populated urban peripheries.
Human rights defenders and child welfare organisations continue to sound the alarm over recurrent violence against minors, demanding comprehensive child protection frameworks, dedicated community surveillance, and institutional safeguards across all residential and educational facilities.
Investigators have cordoned off the crime scene and recovered forensic evidence to corroborate the sequence of events.
Senior police officers confirmed that targeted raids are actively underway to apprehend the teenage assailant, while a formal case under charges of attempted murder and severe violence against minors is being registered to ensure swift judicial prosecution.
