Google Enhances News Visibility in AI-Powered Search Results

MOUNTAIN VIEW: Google announced on Thursday that it will enhance the visibility of links to websites and articles in its search results, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to address concerns from brands and news publishers about a significant decline in online traffic.

The Alphabet subsidiary has been integrating AI features into its search results for over two years. In May 2024, Google introduced AI Overviews, which generate summarized answers to user queries instead of merely displaying links, marking a shift in how information is presented online.

In March 2025, Google further expanded its capabilities with the launch of AI Mode, which opens in a separate window and offers a more comprehensive array of answers and links compared to AI Overviews.

This development is expected to reshape the landscape for digital content creators and news organizations, potentially restoring some of the traffic lost in recent years.

Looking ahead, Google aims to refine these AI features further, with plans for additional updates that could enhance user experience and engagement.

The tech giant’s commitment to improving search functionalities may also influence how news is consumed and distributed across the internet.
